How does Namenda Work?
Namenda tablets are an N-methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist. The medication works by blocking over activity of a substance in the brain called glutamate that may bring down the symptoms associated with Alzheimer disease. Therefore, Namenda tablets are not a cure for Alzheimer disease.

Precautions:
Some medical conditions may interact with Namenda or Namenda XR (HCL) tablets. Ask your physician or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, particularly if any of the situations apply to you: Women who are planning to be pregnant soon should also stay far of Namenda. If you have recently undergone any kind of surgery or if you have past history of suffering from any heart problems you should check with your doctor before using Namenda. The same connotes for those with a history of heart attacks, high blood pressure or any psychological illness including anxiety and depression. If you don’t think you fit into any of the categories as mentioned above, it is still a good idea to inform your doctor of any medical conditions that you may have and aware him with your medical record. Thus, you will be able to take a correct approach about it. If you are already under some kind of medication, you should discuss with your doctor about it. He will be able to help you with the best possible advice. If you suffer from any side effects you immediately visit your doctor and concern about the same with him. And if you are suffering from some major health issue then also it is not advisable to consume Namenda. If the patient has allergies to medicines, some specific foods or other substances may not suit him/her. If the patient has liver problems, or if he/she has a history of bladder or kidney problems, trouble urinating, seizures, or a condition that raises the patient’s urine pH balance like urinary tract infection.

Some medicines may interact with Namenda XR tablets. Consult your physician if you are taking any other medicines, particularly any of these: Carbonic Anhydrase inhibitors like Acetazolamide, Amantadine, Dextromethorphan, sodium bicarbonate, ketamine, because they may accelerate the risk of Namenda tablets’ side effects.

Consult with your physician if Namenda tablets may interact with other medicines that you take. Get suggestion from your health care provider before you start the course, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

Dosage:
Use Namenda tablets as directed by your doctor. Follow up the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information. The minimum dosage is 10 mg. per day (5 mg. twice) and the maximum dosage is 20 mg. (10 mg twice) daily. Namenda tablets should be consumed by mouth preferably with food. In the cases of stomach upset, take with food to reduce stomach irritation. The solution and tablet are usually taken once or twice a day. For a skipped dose of Namenda XR tablets, you are asked to go with your regular course if it is too delay for the day to consume it. You should not repeat the prescribed dose in 24 hours. Namenda side effects in elderly users:
In case of the elder persons, if they take this drug for 2-3 years, it helps the disease slow down. But you might have some confusion about ceasing the medicine. In this case, you must consult about it with your doctor. Aged persons often get a symptom of declining appetite and some agitation with this drug. However, we think that this medicine is not helpful in memory issues.

Namenda XR pill is well known as Namenda Precio in Spain, Mexico, and some Latin American countries. This medicine should not be consumed without getting a proper prescription from the doctor. The doctor examines the patient and prescribes this pill only if it is suitable to him.

Namenda 28 mg side effects:
The patients should with the doctor if any kind of such relative issues find by them while taking the course of Namenda: Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin, black, tarry stools, constipation, and dark-colored urine have complained by some patients. Increased sweating, fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse, indigestion, lethargy are also some issues of Namenda XR drug. Few patients have complained about a loss of consciousness, numbness or tingling in the face, arms, or legs, pinpoint red spots on the skin. Severe muscle stiffness, total body jerking, sudden severe weakness, recurrent fainting might be related to this medication.

Warnings:
Namenda tablets may cause dizziness or drowsiness.  Alcohol or certain medicines may make the effect worse. So use Namenda tablets with caution. The patient should not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until he/she knows how he/she react to it. It is not proved whether Namenda passes into breast milk. So for the potential risk to the infant, breastfeeding is not recommended. Confer with your doctor before breastfeeding. Patients should not take more than the recommended dose without checking with your doctor. Often the symptoms most accompanying Namenda tablet’s overdose, single or in combination with other drugs have included the disorders, for it works in the central nervous system, as above mentioned. Patients should be aware that the act of Namenda related to alcohol has not been studied. So, to become safe sided, patients better to avoid alcohol while taking Namenda tablet.

How long does it take for Namenda to start working?
Studies have shown that most people taking Namenda XR 28 mg will start to see symptoms improve within a few weeks of taking Namenda. For the patients with mild to moderate dementia, the onset of improvement can start in as early as two weeks.
